Title 49--Transportation :
Code of Federal Regulations

CHAPTER V--NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION,
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION

PART 574--TIRE IDENTIFICATION AND RECORDKEEPING

574.3
Definitions—tire purchaser.
      (5) Tire purchaser means a person who buys or leases a new tire, or who buys or leases for 60 days or more a motor vehicle containing a new tire for purposes other than resale.

When you purchase new tires, the tire dealer / retailer is required by Federal Law to provide you with a 'form' so that you can register your tires. If the dealer fails to give you a form, ask the dealer representative to electronically register your new tires at http://www.tirerecallregistry.com.

Registration is the only sure way a tire manufacturer can precisely and quickly contact you in the event of a safety recall - whether initiated voluntarily or involuntarily by NHTSA.

To insure that your rights are protected, regardless of what the dealer does, you can register the tires directly here: https://www.tirerecallregistry.com/record.cgi.

Once registered, it is your right to be directly notified of a tire recall in the event of a safety related defect. This is so the tires can be removed and replaced as quickly as possible to protect you, your family, and vehicle from property damage, personal injury or death.

With TRR, you can be more confident about the manufacturer connecting your tire purchase with a potential future recall. It is smart insurance at a nominal cost.
